Carol Kernaghan (Psychologist)
I am a dedicated psychologist with a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology and extensive experience working across disability services, mental health, and educational settings. My professional background spans supporting children, adolescents, and adults with diverse cognitive, emotional, and behavioural needs, including individuals with developmental disabilities, trauma histories, learning difficulties, and complex mental health presentations.
Throughout my career, I have worked collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, educators, families, and support networks to deliver comprehensive, person-centred care. Within disability services, I have provided assessment, behavioural support, and therapeutic interventions tailored to individual strengths and functional goals. In mental health settings, I have supported clients experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma-related disorders, emotional regulation difficulties, and adjustment challenges. My experience in educational environments includes conducting psychoeducational assessments, developing intervention plans, and promoting social-emotional wellbeing within schools.
My therapeutic approach is integrative and evidence-based. I draw from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Therapy (CT), EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), play therapy, schema therapy, and mindfulness-based interventions. This allows me to tailor treatment to each client’s developmental stage, presenting concerns, and personal values. I am particularly skilled in trauma-informed practice, emotional regulation strategies, cognitive restructuring, and experiential techniques that foster resilience and psychological flexibility.
I am committed to creating safe, inclusive, and culturally responsive therapeutic spaces where clients feel heard, respected, and empowered. My practice is grounded in empathy, collaboration, and a strong belief in each individual’s capacity for growth and meaningful change.
